Native Seed Coat Efficacy Project

Seeds on an open field

As we introduce earth-positive practices at the farm, we plan to document and share our experience. With this goal in mind, we have partnered with the scientists at Earnest Agriculture to research the impact of utilizing their probiotic seed coats as we plant our native prairie and forb mix.

Our native seed coat efficacy project investigates how nutrient-dense probiotic seed coat applications can impact the pace and efficacy of transitioning from conventional agricultural practices to restorative multipurpose perennial systems, while creating vibrant and healthy habitat.

Our research is officially underway! With the help of organizations like the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Rock Island Soil and Water Conservation District and Rock Island Forest Preserve District, we were able to purchase seeds from Prairie Moon Nursery and the property was seeded in winter 2024.
